Oatmeal is a big hit in Scotland. Each year they host the World Porridge Making Championship. Make no mistake good oatmeal porridge is serious at this porridge (or known over here as oatmeal) making competition. In 2008 the competition was graced with the reigning Miss Scotland of Glasgow, Scotland. She greeted and rubbed spoons with porridge makers from across the UK and some international competitors from as far away as Canada. With over 140 porridge (oatmeal) competitors the judges must have been hungry. The more than 1000 live spectators participated in the event by getting tips from the créam dé la créam of oatmeal porridge makers.

The best oatmeal porridge maker was judged on the best tasting and looking traditional oatmeal porridge. But do not think that the oatmeal porridge competitors were restricted to traditional oatmeal porridge. There were some real imaginative entries in the specialty section. Many of these were very tasty also. Among the all time favorites of judges and the audience was the 2006 winners Marzipan porridge.
