Oatmeal Heals Sunburn Naturally and Safely in Children and Adults!

Sunburns hurt! It doesn’t matter if you are one or one hundred years old they are painful and can be dangerous if severe enough. Natives all around the world have used oatmeal for thousands of years as a natural skin aid. With so many harmful chemicals and side effects occurring every day from commercially made chemical products it is time to remember the natural healing that can be had just from oatmeal.

Oatmeal can also be used for other skin irritations and rashes. Beauty care products made from oatmeal are among the best available. And this is totally natural oatmeal the same as you eat to stay healthy. There are several ways to use oatmeal in the treatment of sunburn. Here is one that works particularly well if you are sunburned over a large portion of your body.

Take 10 cups of regular oatmeal and place them in a food processor or blender. Blend on pulse or high until the oatmeal is deduced to a fine powder.
Take the cups of powder and mix in distilled or purified water. Just add enough water to make a nice paste.

Add to your bath water as you would Calgon. Mix well, a foot makes a great stirrer. The temperature should be slightly cooler than you would normally like, but not cold.

Slowly settle into the bath water for a nice soothing soak. Soak for ten to twenty minutes as needed. Remember that the purpose here is not to scrub away dirt but to sooth a painful sunburn. Avoid washing during your soaks and just let the soothing oatmeal begin the healing of that painful sunburn. Be sure to soak all the parts of your body that have suffered from the sunburn.

When you exit your bath, be careful when drying your body. The towels and robe you would normally use may be painful on the sunburn. In addition they can undo some of the benefits of the soothing oatmeal bath. Try to leave the oatmeal residue from your bath mostly intact it will fall off as it dries. The longer it remains in place the more soothing moisture your sunburned skin will receive.

By soaking in the oatmeal bath you can cover more of your body than is typical of other treatments. But at other times you may only be sunburned in a small region of your body. In those instances make the paste with only three to four cups of oatmeal. Grind or blend into powder as described above and mix well with pure water. Remember because you are using substantially less oatmeal powder you will also need less water to reach the right paste consistency.

Apply to the sunburned areas carefully as needed. You can apply with cotton balls but these can leave cotton residue in the paste and on the burn. Cotton pads are better and leave less cotton behind. But I prefer to use my clean fingers to apply over the burn. The fingers are gentler and if clean leave almost no residue.
